Last week I went to see a Canadian band named “Crown Lands”, a twosome that sound incredibly like Rush, a band that was very important to my youth. They were incredibly good, if not a little stretched, likely because they were on a multi-day tour with many stops in a short period of time.
They were opening for July Talk, another Canadian band from Toronto that was profoundly boring. Clearly many people in the audience were there for July Talk, and they seemed genuinely excited, which is great! However, I could not get excited by a single one of their tunes – they all seemed very monotone, very similar music, very uninspiring, no real musical hooks, just… boring.
